KinkyCrafter 20080505 – Steel spreader bar

For this weeks craft segment I decided to go with a steel spreader bar:

Tools and supplies used:

1″ square steel tubing with 1/8″ walls, clamped in place:

Cut to 30″ with a hacksaw:

End marked for drilling:

Progression of drill bit sizes used for easy drilling:

Initial guide hole drilled:

Final hole drilled:

Open eye bolts bolted in place. Use Closed drop forged eye bolts if spreader bar is to be used for any load bearing purposes such as suspension:

A dremel tool or angle grinder can be used to smoth off edges and corners to make them safer to work with:
